Abandoned North Carolina | Creative | Sanford, NC Photographer

Aly was my last model shoot in NC. And boy! Did she rock it! This old abandoned house was awesome... even though we were terrified of ticks since I had a tick crawling on my within 5 mins of walking through the   trees. LOL

I wanted to take this moment to thank all the North Carolina models I got to work with while living in Fayetteville. I had a blast and y'all let me and my buddies get creative. We love photographing events and families but sometimes us creatives just need to GET CREATIVE! LOL without y'all, we'd never be able to push ourselves to become better photographers by testing light, testing poses, testing locations, testing our equipment, ect. You guys rock.

And remember, Sharilyn Wells Photography will be back in Fayetteville in three years. So when you're rich and famous, don't forget about us little guys! ;) Love y'all and continue being bad-asses!

Holi-Wisteria | Concept Model | Fayetteville, NC Photographer

With all the wisteria growing around town, I KNEW I had to get pictures with it. And then I noticed that one of my favorite models had bluish/purplish hair and was like "WHAT?!" This has GOT to go down!

Isn't Joy gorgeous?! Her makeup was done by makeup artist, Khalilah Frederick, owner of

These live flowers were bought at Walmart ... can you believe that?! They were perfect!

I want to share something with you ... this location, it's not this pretty with the naked eye ... I know. Are you surprised?? I wanna show you a pulled back image of the location. It was a little field off of the side of the road, and not in a very .... pretty ... neighborhood. Probably not a place I'd take a client with small children to, but man, you guys. That's why I love saying that hiring a professional photographer is the best bet. Not just because we're "starving artists" but because we know what we are doing! LOL!

Guys, even the model's mom was like ... uh, there's better looking fields of wisteria near us ... LOL But look y'all, we got amazing pictures and the light was perfect!

Then of course, I had to really get to what I really wanted in my concept, and that was to add holi powder to my model to give it a more edgy feel. Pretty is good and all, but when it's a concept shoot, it's something more out of my comfort zone and I wanted to push myself.

Even though at the beginning I couldn't get the purple powder to look the way I wanted ... it wouldn't stick to Joy, like not even in the slightest! LOL So my photographer friends pitched in to come up with a solution, which was put water on her face and then fling powder at her. LOL

It wasn't the look I was going for and I was really quite disappointed when I left the shoot thinking I had failed. But then I got on the computer and started looking through the images and I was shockingly surprised. Even though I didn't keep much from the holi powder section, I was super excited about the ones I did keep! This is why I will forever thank a photojournalist that once told me never to delete images from the back of the camera until you see them on the computer first. <3

Thank you to Joy for getting dirty with us and sticking in there while we figured out how to make my vision come to life! ;)

Classic to Indie | Concept | Fayetteville, NC Photographe

Since becoming super busy as a freelance photographer for a few magazines and newspapers, I've had to say no to a lot of my photographer friends' concept shoots. But for the first time this year, I was able to do one with them and I'm super happy to have joined them!

Alisha is a gorgeous momma and model! She had a super cute 50s type outfit on for a few shots ... which were nice and she looked fabulous, but when she switched to her awesome "Target find" Indie jacket, they instantly became my favorite images of her. She just fits that look perfectly!

I mean come on!? LOL light or dark, she looks fantastic! And have I mentioned how much I love historic downtown Fayetteville? People are always telling me that Fayetteville is a horrible place, there's nothing to do, and it's just not appealing. I have to disagree. The history of Fayetteville is so rich and the American pride run deeps within the city's limit. You cannot tell me that there isn't beauty here! You just have to look!

...and find the light! ;)

Rusted to Perfection | Concept | Fayetteville, NC Photographer

I had seen Aly in photographs before, but never had the chance to photograph her. Then when Tysha (Tysha Hallman Photo) said her next concept was with Aly and at a junk yard of VWs I was like SCORE!

How perfect was the light, the location and the model?! I mean come on! Besides the fact that we were getting ate up by mosquitos, this was an awesome, simple and quick shoot. Thank you to the junk yard that allowed us to play and to Aly for climbing over cars! haha!

Pumpkin Head Love | Concept | Fayetteville, NC Photographer

To say I didn't have an absolute blast on this concept shoot would be a horrendous lie. LOL! I couldn't have pictured this session going any better! I had the idea, the models in mind, and they brought their A-GAME!

I knew I wanted a male and female model for this old timey feel ... people who would get into character and give that oddly creepy feel to this concept. Gage immediately popped into my head because A) look at him ... B) he always has the best costume/outfits and C) do I need to explain anymore?!

Joy ... again ... she's so much fun to shoot with and she doesn't have to do much to make the shot happen. Again, her momma always goes beyond what I expect for costuming/outfit ideas. Plus, both of my models were troopers, especially when I said, "You'll be wearing pumpkin heads..."

Everything was going awesome. Just like a normal shoot. We were getting the shots and loving them, but then we put the pumpkin heads on Gage and Joy. All hell broke loose. We COULD NOT, for the life of us, stop laughing! Gage is such a character and Joy is so quiet. These two fit their characters perfectly. The Dapper, Debonair Gentleman and the Quiet, Fair Lady.

I could show you five billion images from this session. They're all so fabulous. But I'll end with this one. I little pumpkin humor! ;) First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes ....

Costuming: Gage, Joy, and Marsha
Hair and makeup for Joy: Marsha & Joy
