30 Day Challenge: Day 6

Today's challenge: From a low angle

It was a nasty weather day for trick or treating, but that didn't put a damper on my son's night. He had a blast juggling he's candy bucket, the umbrella and his Captain America shield. He made out good, apparently people are very generous when it's raining and cold outside! LOL

Fall has finally come

Living in North Carolina, you come to realize that your seasons tend to blend together. We definitely have four seasons, just not when they're supposed to be. Our Spring and Summer tend to last most of the year, and then Fall will hit for about a month, then BAM! Winter hits. So I've been waiting on the leaves to change before Winter sneaks up on us, and finally the leaves are changing. I took these photos a few days ago. However, the leaves are changing even faster now so I might need to take some more Fall foliage soon! Enjoy!

30 Day Challenge: Day 5

What better place to do today's challenge then on top of a ferris wheel? Today's challenge: From a high angle. While at the Oktoberfest on Fort Bragg, I decided to shoot from the top of the ferris wheel to get the whole feel of the festival. Here's the shot.

On a Sunday, the fair was pretty empty, but gorgeous enough. Plus, I found these nummies and had to take a picture ... or two.

30 Day Challenge: Day 4

Today's challenge: Something green

I went outside and took a cool picture of a leaf on the grass for the challenge. But when I came back in and took a sip of my coffee ... I realized that something green was much more closer to me that was green.

I can't live without my coffee. LOL, and Starbucks makes their coffee PERFECT.

I'm also sharing the grass photo with y'all as well. Enjoy!

30 Day Challenge: Day 3

Alright folks ... I'm on day 3 and super excited to have made it this far! :-) Baby steps people, baby steps. Today's challenge was: Clouds.

I caught this image right after I dropped my son off at daycare. I looked up into the sky and saw the strange purplish color and thought ... PERFECT! I couldn't have asked for a better subject today, especially since it was today's challenge. We are also supposed to have some storms rolling in today, so this may not be the only cloud picture I capture today. Here's to hoping!

Worldwide PhotoWalk 2011: Fayetteville, N.C.

I participated in the annual Worldwide PhotoWalk this year (Oct. 1) — it was actually a first for Fayetteville to participate as well. It was fun to get together with other photographers and see how they see things, as well as share our photos. Here are some of my shots of the night. Some shots were of objects, while others were of people. And as you can tell, people really are my strong point! One is of my BFF being brave and jumping off a ledge ... that I asked her to do! And the couple was just so cute! I loved their beanies and they agree to pose for a photo.

30 Day Challenge: Day 2

Today's challenge was: What you wore today

Luckily, I wore something cute today! And notice my hair is straight today as well ... Fall in North Carolina has finally come. The humidity has left and Shari can straighten her hair up until Spring comes along again! WAHOO!

30 Day Challenge: Day 1

So I've tried doing the 365 Photography Challenges and a 52 Week Photography Challenge and have yet to succeed in any of them. I tend to forget about days, get too busy, or am just plain lazy. While reading an amazing fellow photographer's blog, Shannon Joy, she shared a 30 day photo challenge (who is also doing a 365 day challenge). She and a friend were participating in it, and I thought to myself ... "30 days, I can do 30 days."

So today is the first day: Self-Portrait

I've taken numerous "self-portraits" before, but some reason this one was a toughy for me. I was going for artistic, but I also wanted to look good! :-) Usually, I just snap away and feel confidant enough to share one or two with friends. But today, like I said, it was a toughy!

Below is my challenge. Wish me luck ... I will succeed at this.

Apple picking

Okay guys, I'm not good at keeping up to date on this blog ... I am trying though!

A few weeks ago the family and I headed to Millstone Creek Orchards to pick our own apples. I had never done it before and thought it would be a fun experience. And boy was I right, even though it started off a little rough.

We brought a friend of D's with us and headed on our hour and a half drive north of our house. The weather forecast said it was going to rain, but we didn't see any clouds in the sky — so we challenged the weather man and left anyway. The drive there was gorgeous. The sun was out, the birds sang, and the boys were happy. The second we pulled into the parking lot of the orchards and downloaded the kids and the wagon, it started raining. We headed inside the barn, thinking it was only a quick shower. Wrong. It was a downpour. We waited in the barn for about an hour and the kids were getting hungry and cranky. We had brought lunch, but guess where the food was ... in the truck. So we made a run to the truck and all ate inside the truck as it rained.

Finally, the rain let up and the clouds moved away ... it became a beautiful day. The boys climbed inside the wagon and my husband pulled them to the orchard. We let them out and run free. They had a blast picking  "perfect" apples. They were doing such a great job, I had to slow them down because we already had over 24 apples ... what in the world was I going to do with all these apples?

Here are some photos of the apple picking.

Now, are you still wondering what I did with the apples? Well, we are STILL eating them, however I did make a day of baking with D and gave others away. Here is what D and I made.

Apple & Chocolate Chip Cookies with a glaze on tope
Some call this Monkey Bread (?), it's a Southern thing I suppose. I called it cinnamon apple walnut cake. It tasted amazing with ice cream!
We of course made caramel and chocolate covered apples!
(Sorry for the iPhone photo, I was being lazy while I ate this) Apple pork and quinoa! Nummy!
